Where can I purchase Laserlite polycarbonate sheeting products?

If you would like to purchase our Polycarbonate Roofing Products, please visit our Find a Stockist page to find a stockist near you.

Do you cut polycarbonate sheets to length?

Whilst we have a full range of standard stock sheet lengths, we will happily cut down sheets to suit your project requirements.

Is there any additional cost to cut sheet lengths to specific requirements?

No, we will cut polycarbonate sheets to any length you require, but please note that cut-back sheet lengths will be charged to the next sheet increment i.e if you require a 2.3m length you will need to purchase 2.4m length.

In DIY projects, what is the best method to cut sheet to guarantee a smooth edge?

A fine-toothed handsaw or circular saw with a cut-off blade is suitable for plastics. Always wear appropriate PPE when using cutting tools.

Can I walk on polycarbonate sheet?

No, never walk on sheeting or apply your load directly to it.

What can you clean polycarbonate or PVC sheet with?

Clean your roof with warm soapy water (mild detergent) and a soft sponge, then hose down thoroughly.

Do not use a water-blaster as this will remove a layer of the UV cap and reduce the life expectancy of the product.

Does the cost vary between colour selections?

No, the cost quoted for a particular polycarbonate sheet brand and profile will be the same cost across our range of colours.

What is recommended to complete the sheeting job?

Using Laserlite® OneShot fasteners and Noise Stop Tape will ensure that the sheeting is properly fastened and allowed to sit on the purlins better, reducing expansion and contraction noise caused from varying ambient temperatures.

How do I stop the sheet from creaking?

Laserlite® Noise Stop Tape is a foam product that goes between the purlins and the sheeting, which prevents any creaking.

How do you calculate how many sheets are required to complete a job?

Side laps need to be considered when calculating how much sheet you need. Calculate the number of sheets required based on the effective cover width (once fitted), as opposed to actual sheet width. For example, a standard 840mm sheet has an effective sheet cover width of 760mm.  Please see the example below and/or see our roofing calculator.

How do you prevent leaking?

A minimum pitch of 5° is recommended. (88mm rise per lineal metre = 5° pitch). Below 5° may result in the roof leaking. Also ensure that you have the correct side laps. For Corrugate/Roma profiles, ensure a 1 ½ side lap, and for Greca and 5-Rib ensure a single side lap.

What sealants can I use on polycarbonate?

We do not recommend the use of sealants on polycarbonate for the following reasons:

  • they can damage the UV cap layer
  • people often try to stick the side lap together, which prevents the sheets from expanding and contracting.

The life of sealant is short compared to the life you get from polycarbonate sheets. If you use flashings and back channel tape instead, you will ensure your work is watertight.

If you must use a sealant, ensure it is a 100% neutral cure sealant suitable for polycarbonate.

How do I calculate the number of sheets required for my Pergola?

In an example of a roof area 4m x 2.3m deep with a corrugated sheet profile:

Sheet length required is 2.4 (2400mm), effective cover with side laps allowed is 0.76m.

Your calculation would be worked out as follows:

4m / 0.76mm = 5.26 sheets

Rounding up to whole sheets, you will need 6 @ 2.4m to complete your roof.

How many roofing fasteners should I purchase?

IPlease refer to our Roofing Calculator.

What spacing should each fastener have?

Screw every second rib on the end purlins and every third rib on the intermediate purlins.

What type of fixings do I need in high wind areas?

Special fixings are available for high wind loads. Please seek advice for your circumstances as you’ll need to check profile washers, which is normally a load spreading washer.
  • Fibreglass

What is Topglass® fibreglass roofing used for?

Topglass® is a translucent fibreglass roofing product designed to bring natural daylight into commercial, industrial and agricultural buildings.

It is commonly used in warehouses, factories, sheds, workshops and other large roof areas where natural daylight can help reduce reliance on artificial lighting.

Topglass® is available in different configurations for applications requiring general daylighting, solar control, fire performance, impact resistance and other performance characteristics.

What is the difference between standard Topglass® and Topglass® GC?

Standard Topglass® is designed for general-purpose natural daylighting, while Topglass® GC is a premium gel-coated option.

Topglass® GC uses a premium gelcoat weathering system designed to provide improved resistance to UV exposure, weathering and corrosive environments.

The appropriate product depends on the performance requirements and environmental conditions of the project.

What is Topglass® TopCool?

Topglass® TopCool is a heat-reducing fibreglass roof light designed to allow natural light into a building while limiting solar heat gain.

It provides a softer, more diffused light than a conventional clear or lightly tinted roof light and can be considered for commercial, industrial, retail, nursery and sporting applications where daylight, glare and heat build-up all need to be considered.

When should I use Topglass® GC Ultra-Safe?

Topglass® GC Ultra-Safe is designed for applications where increased strength, impact resistance and maintenance access are required. It incorporates additional woven glass reinforcement, providing greater resistance to concentrated loads than standard translucent fibreglass roofing.

Ultra-Safe has been independently tested and certified for trafficable applications, making it suitable for general roof maintenance access, including maintenance of solar panels and HVAC systems, when installed and used in accordance with the applicable product requirements.

What is Topglass® FR50, and why would I need it?

Topglass® FR50 is designed for projects where improved fire performance and smoke reduction are required.

It incorporates a specially formulated fire-retardant resin system to provide improved fire performance and smoke reduction while still providing natural daylight through the roof.

FR50 should be specified according to the fire engineering and compliance requirements of the particular building or project.

Is a Topglass® TwinSkin system better than a single rooflight sheet?

TwinSkin uses two layers of translucent fibreglass roofing to provide natural daylight while improving thermal and acoustic performance compared with a single sheet. It can also help reduce condensation.

It is particularly suited to commercial and industrial buildings where thermal performance and indoor comfort are important.

The appropriate system depends on the surrounding roof construction, insulation requirements and desired level of natural daylight.

When would Topclad® GC be a better choice than metal roofing?

Topclad® GC is a solid-colour fibreglass roofing and cladding product designed for environments where corrosion is a major concern.

It can be considered for chemical plants, wastewater facilities, coastal sites, agricultural buildings, animal sheds and other aggressive environments.

Because it does not rely on a metal substrate, it can provide an alternative where corrosion may reduce the service life of conventional metal roofing or cladding.

Can Topglass® be matched to my existing roof profile?

In many cases, yes. Topglass® is available in a range of profiles designed to work with common metal roofing and cladding systems.

The existing roof profile should be correctly identified before ordering. Similar-looking profiles can have different rib spacing and dimensions, so selecting the correct profile is important to ensure proper alignment, laps and sealing.

Do I need special fixings for Topglass® fibreglass roofing?

Yes. Fibreglass roof lights should be installed using the correct fixings, seals and accessories for the specific roofing profile and application.

The roof light must also correctly match the surrounding metal roof profile.

Using the correct components helps the system seal properly and reduces the risk of problems around fixings, laps and support points.

Always follow the current Laserlite installation instructions for the specific product.

When should Roof Safety Mesh be used?

Roof Safety Mesh should be considered and installed in accordance with the requirements of AS/NZS 4389:2015 – Safety mesh for roof work and the applicable roof design and installation requirements.

Standard translucent fibreglass roofing should not generally be treated as a walking surface. Where roof access is required, appropriate safety mesh, walkways and fall-protection measures should be incorporated as required.

Always check the current installation instructions and applicable site safety requirements before commencing work.

When and why should purlin strips or purlin tape be used?

Purlin strips or purlin tape can be used between the fibreglass sheet and supporting purlins to help protect the underside of the sheet and provide a more suitable interface at the support points.

They can be particularly useful where the roofing system, profile or installation conditions require additional protection.

The correct product and installation method should be confirmed against the current Laserlite installation instructions for the specific fibreglass sheet and roof system.

How do you prevent leaking?

Correct installation is the key to preventing leaks.

Use the correct profile, approved fixings, washers, seals and accessories, and ensure side and end laps are installed correctly. Purlin strips or tape should be used where required by the installation system.

Avoid over-tightening fixings, which can damage the sheet or sealing washer. Regularly inspect roof laps, fixings and penetrations as part of routine roof maintenance.

Always follow the current Laserlite installation instructions for the specific product and profile.

How long is Topglass® covered by warranty in Australia?

Warranty periods vary across the Laserlite fibreglass range and depend on the specific product.

The warranty ranges from 10 years for Topglass® up to 25 years for Topglass® GC for applicable products.

Warranty conditions apply, including correct installation and maintenance. Always refer to the current Laserlite warranty documentation for the specific product being specified.

Can I walk on standard Topglass® fibreglass roofing?

Standard Topglass® fibreglass roofing should not be treated as a walking surface.

Topglass® GC Ultra-Safe has been specifically designed, tested and certified for trafficable applications. If any other product has been installed, roof access should be planned using appropriate walkways, access systems and fall-protection measures rather than by walking directly on the fibreglass sheets.

What is the safest way to access a roof with Topglass® roof lights?

Roof access should be planned around the roof lights rather than across them.

Standard Topglass® sheets should not be used as stepping points. Depending on the roof and work being carried out, a suitable walkway or purpose-designed access system may be required to keep loads off the fibreglass sheeting.

Before maintenance begins, confirm which Topglass® product is installed and check the condition of the sheets, fixings, supports and any safety mesh.

What is different about Topglass® GC Ultra-Safe for roof access?

Topglass® GC Ultra-Safe incorporates additional woven glass reinforcement and has been independently tested and certified for trafficable applications.

This enables general roof maintenance access, including maintenance of solar panels and HVAC systems, when the product is installed and used within its specified conditions.

As with all building materials, age, environmental exposure, damage and maintenance history can affect performance. Regular maintenance access should therefore follow the applicable product requirements and site safety procedures.

What should I check before accessing an older fibreglass roof?

Unless you can confirm which fibreglass, sheet has been installed and when, it is not recommended to walk on older fibreglass roof sheets.

If Topglass® GC Ultra-Safe was installed, has been appropriately maintained and is less than 20 years old, it should be suitable for trafficable maintenance access within its specified application.

However, different environmental factors, both external and internal, can affect the condition and performance of building materials. The condition of the sheets, fixings, supports and any safety mesh should therefore be assessed before access.

Where there is any doubt, have the roof assessed by a competent roofing professional.

What is the difference between fibreglass roofing products?

Different fibreglass roofing products can vary in their resin systems, reinforcement, surface treatments, performance characteristics, profiles and intended applications.

Topglass® is a range of fibreglass roofing and roof lighting products designed for specific performance requirements, including weathering, solar control, fire performance and trafficable maintenance applications.

When comparing products, consider the specific performance requirements of the building rather than simply comparing appearance or price.

Is there any additional cost to cut sheet lengths to specific requirements?

Sheet lengths and cutting options can depend on the product, profile, quantity and order requirements.

If specifically long sheet lengths are required, confirm the available options and any applicable charges at the time of quotation. For example, the freight requirements.

Where can I purchase Laserlite's fibreglass sheeting products?

  • Installation

What sheet length should I purchase for replacing a veranda roof?

If your existing veranda is 2.3m in length, you need to purchase 2.4m length sheets. The 2.1m length sheet is too short.

What is my overall roof area if it is 4m wide by 2.3m deep?

In this example you need to purchase 2.4m sheet lengths (2400mm). The effective cover with side laps allowed for is 0.76m (760mm).

Your calculation would be worked out like this:

4m ÷ 0.76m = 5.26 sheets

Rounding up to whole sheets, you would need 6 sheets at 2.4m length.

How many roofing fasteners should I purchase?

For each 2.4m sheet allow 7 fasteners, then multiply by 6 sheets to cover the area = 100.8 (2.4 x 7 x 6 = 100.8). Round up to the next whole number, so you require 101 fasteners*.

*Note: fasteners come in different pack or jar sizes, so you will need to check with your retail store.

  • Fasteners

How many fasteners do I need?

The general rule is to allow seven fasteners per lineal metre of sheet.
